This summer is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable seasons that Columbia Distributing CEO Chris Steffanci has ever experienced.

Craft’s rolling four-week losses improved to start 2025, according to the most recent report from market research firm Circana. The segment’s off-premise dollar sales declined -3.1% and volume, measured in case sales, declined -4.6% in the four-week period ending January 26 (L4W) at multi-outlet grocery, mass retail and convenience stores (MULO+C). That marked an improvement over the prior four-week period (through December 29, 2024), when craft dollars declined -5.1% and volume declined -6.5%.

Off-premise dollar sales of craft beer declined -3.3%, to more than $4.6 billion, in 2024, according to multi-outlet grocery, mass retail and convenience store data shared by market research firm Circana.

Georgetown Brewing has acquired Timber City Ginger, a fellow Seattle-based ginger beer maker, the brewery announced today. Ten-year-old Timber City’s portfolio includes both non-alcoholic (NA) and hard ginger beer, both of which Georgetown plans to continue producing.

Nearly 20-year-old Georgetown Brewing has only been packaging its beer for a little more than a quarter of its life, and although cans buoyed the brewery during the pandemic, they’re a distant second priority to draft in terms of sales and production.

Washington’s craft brewing industry contributed $1.4 billion to the state’s economy in 2017, according to an economic impact report released Tuesday by the Washington Beer Commission. The study, conducted by Seattle-based research firm Community Attributes Inc, found that the state’s 382 breweries produced 582,400 barrels, generated $581.4 million in revenue and employed 6,300 workers in 2017.
