At Eckhart we are creating not just a brewery, but a community space for novices and aficionados alike to share well-crafted beer and food served by a welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive staff. Operating in an 8000-square-foot, 10-bbl brewery and taproom in Bushwick, Eckhart specializes in European-style lagers, with the goal of bringing the best of the lager tradition–from raw ingredients, to brewing process, to hospitality–to the heart of Brooklyn. Eckhart will embrace a “narrow-but-deep” approach to the craft brewing movement, featuring a small range of beers but focusing on perfection, tradition, and authenticity at all levels. Eckhart will have a fully built-out, 100-seat taproom with a full kitchen.
About the position:
We are currently hiring for a full-time production position that, once fully trained on our systems, will include wort production, cellaring, packaging, delivering beer and any other brewery related tasks. We are a small team and everyone pitches in, until further hires are made this role will be required to drive and deliver beer 1-2 days per week. Given that beer is a living product, this role requires flexibility working mornings and evenings as needed, and occasional weekend work.
Qualities and experience we are looking for:
- Prior experience working in a new brewery
- Professional study in the beer industry (MBAA, Siebel, Doemens, etc)
- Applicable FDNY COF certifications
- Off-flavor and sensory training
- Mechanical skills and the ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions
- Experience operating a canning line
- Experience with brewery ERP systems (Ekos, Beer30, OBeer, etc)
- Basic Lab Skills
Required experience and skills:
- Experience with and enthusiasm for lager brewing
- Minimum 3 years in wort production and cellaring on a 10bbl kit or larger
- Fermentation monitoring, record keeping, CIP / SIP, wort and beer transfer and filtration
- Yeast harvest, pitching and health management
- Strict adherence to production and safety SOPs and good manufacturing practices
- Keg Washing and Filling
- Valid drivers license, clean driving record, and driving in a densely populated city
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Ability to regularly lift and move 60 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift and move 160 pounds
- Routine preventative maintenance
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience driving a forklift, scissor lift and pallet truck
- Representing the company at tastings, festivals and public events
Compensation and Benefits:
- 40 hour work week
- $27-$31/hr, non-exempt, based on experience
