SUMMARY:


The Head Brewer will report to the Director of Operations and oversee all aspects of brewery operations, leading a team of brewers in producing high-quality beer for both the brewpub and distribution markets. This role involves managing daily production activities, driving innovation through recipe development, and ensuring operational excellence. The Head Brewer will also be responsible for managing ingredient and equipment ordering, forecasting production needs, and ensuring the continuous availability of core beers.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the brewing team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
  • Schedule and oversee daily production tasks, ensuring seamless communication across brewing, cellaring, packaging, and distribution teams.
  • Act as a champion for safety, compliance, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Brewing & Production Oversight:

  • Oversee all brewing, cellaring, packaging, and cleaning operations, ensuring consistency and quality at every step.
  • Develop and execute production schedules to meet demand for the taproom and distribution channels.
  • Drive recipe development, collaborating with the team to create innovative beers while maintaining core product excellence.
  • Implement and manage quality control procedures, including routine sensory analysis and technical evaluations (e.g., dissolved oxygen, carbonation, etc.).

Inventory Management & Forecasting:

  • Manage all ingredient and equipment purchasing, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of raw materials (e.g., malt, hops, yeast) and packaging supplies.
  • Accurately forecast production needs to align with distribution demands, seasonal trends, and taproom sales, ensuring inventory levels are always optimized.
  • Assist with the Packaging Team to develop and implement systems to track ingredient usage and shelf life, ensuring freshness and minimal waste.
  • Proactively plan and execute production schedules to ensure the continuous availability of core beers, avoiding stockouts in both the taproom and distribution channels.

Equipment & Facility Management:

  • Manage and maintain brewery equipment, including the brewhouse, packaging line, keg washer, and lab equipment, minimizing downtime through proactive maintenance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize production efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize yield.
  • Maintain an organized and clean production space, ensuring compliance with safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Utilize software (e.g., Ollie Ops) to track and analyze inventory, production, and packaging data.
  • Provide regular production updates, including key performance metrics, forecasts, and operational recommendations, to senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal reporting requirements, including excise tax filings and safety documentation.

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

  • Work closely with the sales and distribution teams to align production with market demands, seasonal trends, and distribution goals.
  • Represent Fast Friends Beer Company at industry events, festivals, and community gatherings to strengthen the brand and foster customer engagement.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the onboarding of new equipment, processes, and brewing team members.
  • Support brewery events and promotional activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Participate in the development of new recipes and brewing techniques, contributing to innovation and creativity within the brewing team.
  • Assist in brewery events and festivals, representing Fast Friends Beer Company and engaging with the community.
  • Make order deliveries using a Ford Transit 250 delivery van as needed, ensuring timely and professional service.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement by sharing insights and feedback with the brewing team.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations


REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED required; relevant certifications (e.g., BJCP, Cicerone) preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in brewing, cellar, or packaging operations, with a strong understanding of brewing principles and techniques.
  • Passion for craft beer, with a keen interest in recipe development and quality assurance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong work ethic, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt, taking direction from the Director of Operations while also contributing innovative ideas.
  • Physical ability to lift 55 pounds and maneuver 165 pounds, with stamina to stand for extended periods.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays as necessary.

  • 60-65k per year depending on experience
