Austin Beerworks is seeking an experienced shift brewer. Must have a great attitude, work well with others, and be OK with terrible music playing in the background.

We are a regional brewery that focuses on quality of beer, quality of life, and maintaining deep roots in our local market. We self-distribute all 20,000bbls of our current annual production within a 50-mile radius of the brewery in Austin. We are currently in the middle of trying to hire for a shift brewing position. This is where you come in.

Job Requirements

  • 2 years experience in a production brewery or brewpub .
  • Flexible work schedule: early morning, day, night and occasional weekend shifts (no overnights).
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude are a plus.
  • Good communication, self-starter, critical thinking, and organized.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Wort Production and Brewhouse CIPs
  • Receive grain and hop deliveries as needed
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance testing.
  • Actively find improvements for the beer and our processes.
  • Must be willing to pitch in on tasks outside your key responsibilities.
  • Maintaining pumps, brewhouse equipment, and other machinery as needed

Future Responsibilities and Job Growth Include:

  • Beer clarification: centrifuge operation 
  • Cellar operations: including fermentation management, CIP and Sanitation of tanks, pipes, hoses, fittings, yeast vessels, and barrels
  • Dry Hops and Adjunct additions
  • Yeast management including propagation and viability/vitality testing.

Abilities and Skills

  • A solid understanding of brewing and fermentation sciences.
  • Must be able to lift 55 lbs and move 140 lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to stand for 8-10 hours per day.
  • Must be competent with MS Office, Google Docs.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift (training provided).
  • Must be able to maintain a great attitude during hot weather conditions while making exceptional beer.
  • Experience with Ekos is a plus
  • Previous work in wort production is a plus (especially on a brewhouse of 30BBL or larger)

Benefits:

  • Pay Rate: $21.50/HR
  • 40-hour work week, time and a half for hours past 40 as well as time and a half for all weekend work (most staff average 40-45hrs/wk).
