POSITION: Brewer 1
A Brewer 1 at Santa Fe Brewing Co. is responsible for producing and/or assisting with wort production in the brewhouse and finished beer production in the cellar. This position is an entry level position in our brewing department. Training will start with focus centered on cellar operations including tank cleaning, yeast harvest, and centrifuge operation. Opportunities to cross-train in the brewhouse will be provided as staffing levels allow.
This position is best suited for a passionate, experienced brewer with strong attention to detail, communication skills, and multitasking ability who is looking to be a part of a modern, complex operation, while meeting the company’s quality, efficiency, and safety goals. This position reports to the Production Manager, but will also work closely with Brewing Supervisor, Operations, Maintenance, and Quality departments. This is a Full-Time, benefits-eligible, hourly position.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Operate 70bbl 5-vessel brew house, including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, hop additions, whirlpool, wort cooling, yeast pitching and CIP
• Operate centrifuge and filter, clean and sanitize fermentation and bright beer tanks, dry hopping, yeast handling/management and preparing beer for packaging
• Receiving, handling and preparation of raw materials
• Complete necessary data collection and documentation for all brewing and cellar activities.
• Communicate in-process and other important information at shift change.
• Communicate and coordinate with other departments (packaging, warehouse, QA/QC, maintenance, production planning)
• Maintain clean, safe, and orderly work areas.
• Perform basic light mechanical repairs to brewing and cellar equipment when necessary.
• Assist with and suggest process and product improvements.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
· 1+ years’ experience in brewing or beverage alcohol production required.
· Strong organizational, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
- Demonstrated mechanical skills required. Ability to troubleshoot and solve brewing equipment problems desired.
· Experience using powerlift equipment preferred. Certification required within the first 30 days of employment.
· High School Diploma or GED required. Additional fermentation/brewing science education desired.
· MS Office skills required. Automated Brewhouse and Industrial Controls experience preferred.
· Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with other coworkers and departments, as well as work independently with minimal supervision required.
· Detail Oriented and Proactive. Able to multitask and adjust to changing priorities.
· Desire to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment required
· At least 21 years of age required. An interest in brewing desired.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
- Able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8-10 hours per day)
· Able to work with powerlift equipment
· Able to lift materials up to 55 lbs. unassisted, repeatedly
· Able to stand for long periods of time and able to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
· Able to work in wet, tight, or cramped spaces and in an environment with high noise levels
· Able to work with hazardous chemicals
· Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (boots, gloves, apron, eye protection, etc.)
· Able to perform job with and around moving machinery
· Potential exposure to hot fluids, live steam, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, particulate atmospheres, carbon dioxide, variable temperature levels, and wet floors and clothing.
· Available to work 5 x 8 or 4 x 10 hour shifts with flexibility for early, late shifts, occasional weekends and OT if needed
