Position Mission: 

Successfully contribute to the growth of Melvin Brewing Company through excellence in brewing and effective cost of good management. Use a continuous improvement approach to brewing at Melvin production facility while maintaining a keen focus on quality, consistency, yields and daily, weekly and monthly operational and administrative tasks. Candidates best suited for the position are endlessly curious and passionate about continuous improvement and will be an integral collaborator willing and able to take clear directions from the Head Brewer to support production brewing operations. 


Overview:

This position is primarily responsible for beer brewing, cellaring operations and maintenance tasks as well as working closely with the quality assurance manager to ensure specification and quality standards are met. This position should exhibit and support a high-performance work ethic and maintain a culture of accountability and respect. 


Key Results:

  1. Brewing Operations:
  2. Follow brewery SOPS for brewing, chemical use, cellaring and conditioning.
  3. Brew commercial batches of beer on large and small scales.
  4. Clean and sanitize equipment – CIP and general cleaning tasks.
  5. Perform maintenance on tanks, pumps and brew and auger systems.
  6. Operate the centrifuge.
  7. Monitor gravities, off-flavors and fermentations.
  8. Continually focus on process improvements and beer quality improvements.
  9. Alert Brewmaster/Head Brewer as any equipment, staffing or operational issues that arise.
  10. Raw material management such as weekly inventory, rotation of product to ensure freshness and quality. 
  11. Growth:
  12. Effectively incorporate additional batches for Melvin organic growth and its contribution to the Lazy Dog partnership.
  13. Work with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure the highest quality product and to mitigate any product quality issues that arise in the brewery or in the market. 
  14. Recipe development for innovative beers and test batches for future large scale production brews. 
  15. Administrative:
  16. Report needs to Brewmaster/Head Brewer as they arise, including concerns with COGS levels, equipment maintenance and staffing.
  17. Monthly production and safety meetings held.
  18. Work with Head Brewer on comprehensive projects and tasks developed and assigned to improve quality, technique, process, safety and results. These tasks/projects could be daily, weekly or monthly objectives.

Compensation: 

Compensation is hourly based with quarterly bonuses. Benefits include health insurance coverage, Paid Time Off, ESOP eligibility, affiliate discount programs, discounted ski pass, and free beer. Relocation expenses are negotiable.
